Heynh ecotype Columbia-0 and 35SBBM transgenic line. The Brief Problem Monitor (BPM) is an instrument designed for this purpose. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the BPM parent (BPM-P) and teacher (BPM-T) versions, including internal reliability and construct validity at assessing children with internalizing problems.

    Colloid solutions are commonly used to maintain perioperative fluid homeostasis. In regard to perioperative infant-centered care, data about the impact of colloids are rare. New data suggest a possible positive effect of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) concerning blood brain barrier. Therefore we conduct a retrospective single center study of children scheduled for neurosurgery, age < five with a blood loss > 10% of body blood volume, receiving either 6% HES 130/0.4 or 5% human albumin (HA).

    Out of 913 patients, 86 were included (HES = 30; HA = 56). Compared to HES [16.4 ± 9.2ml/kg body weight (mean ± SD)] HA group received more colloid volume (25.7 ± 11.3), which had more blood loss [HA 54.8 ± 45.0; HES 30.5 ± 30.0 (%) estimated blood volume] and higher fluid balances. Fibrinogen was decreased and activated partial thromboplastin time was elevated in HA group. Urinary output, creatinine and urea levels did not differ between the two groups. Serum calcium, total protein levels were lower in HES group. HA ized controlled trials about perioperative goal-directed fluid replacement of children undergoing (neuro)-surgery with major blood loss are needed.

    Artemisinin based combination therapies (ACTs) have been a cornerstone in the treatment of malaria in the world. A rapid decline in dihydroartemisinin piperaquine (DHP) and artemether lumefantrine (ALU) efficacies has been reported in some parts of South East Asia, the historical epicenter for the antimalarial drug resistance. Prolonged drug use is associated with selection of resistant parasites due to exposure to inadequate drug levels hence effects on treatment outcomes in malaria. ALU and DHP are used as first line and alternative first line, respectively, in Tanzania. This study was carried in Igombe, Tanzania to assess the efficacies of ALU and DHP in routine treatment of uncomplicated malaria among children.

    This was a prospective study involving children up to 10 years and followed up for 28 and 35days as per the WHO protocol, 2015 for monitoring antimalarial drug efficacy. The primary end points were crude and adjusted Adequate Clinical and Parasitological Response (ACPR), parasite clearance ratehe WHO minimum threshold requirement for recommendation of a change in the treatment policy. When using a femoral and a radial arterial line, this femoral-to-radial arterial pressure gradient (FR-APG) can be detected. Our main objective was to assess the accuracy of non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) measures; specifically, measuring the gradient between the NIBP obtained at the brachial artery and the radial artery pressure and calculating the non-invasive brachial-to-radial arterial pressure gradient (NIBR-APG) to detect an FR-APG. The secondary objective was to assess the prevalence of the FR-APG in a targeted sample of critically ill patients.

    Fish gut microbial colonisation starts during larval stage and plays an important role in host’s growth and health. To what extent first colonisation could influence the gut microbiome succession and growth in later life remains unknown. In this study, Nile tilapia embryos were incubated in two different environments, a flow-through system (FTS) and a biofloc system (BFS); hatched larvae were subsequently cultured in the systems for 14days of feeding (dof). Fish were then transferred to one common recirculating aquaculture system (RAS1, common garden, 15-62dof), followed by a growth trial in another RAS (RAS2, growth trial, 63-105dof). In RAS2, fish were fed with two types of diet, differing in non-starch polysaccharide content. Our aim was to test the effect of rearing environment on the gut microbiome development, nutrient digestibility and growth performance of Nile tilapia during post-larvae stages.

    Larvae cultured in the BFS showed better growth and different gut microbiome, compared to FTS. After thcy effect of first microbial colonisation of the fish gut gradually disappeared during host development, with no differences in gut microbiome composition and growth performance observed in later life after culture in a common environment. However, early life exposure of larvae to biofloc consistently increased the microbial interactions in the gut of juvenile Nile tilapia and might possibly benefit gut health.
