    This study examined the effects of a 12-week school-based “We Fit” weight control programme.

    A nonequivalent control group was used, with a non-synchronized pretest-posttest design.

    In total, 109 Korean high school adolescents participated. The programme comprised exergaming, diet diary and counselling, health education, and social networking service-based group discussions. Anthropometric factors, physiological factors and physical activity (daily steps and sitting time) were measured in the intervention and the control groups before and after the intervention. Programme satisfaction was assessed post-intervention. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics; the chi-square, Mann-Whitney U and t tests; and generalized estimating equations.

    The intervention group showed a significantly decreased waist circumference, increased skeletal muscle mass, increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, decreased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and reduced weekend sitting time.

We demonstrate that, even though snail family transcriptional repressor 2 (SNAI2) is frequently amplified in prostate cancer, it is epigenetically silenced in this disease, with dynamic changes in SNAI2 levels showing distinct clinical relevance. Integrative clinical data from 18 prostate cancer cohorts and experimental evidence showed that gene fusion between transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) and ETS transcription factor ERG (ERG) (TMPRSS2-ERG fusion) is involved in the silencing of SNAI2. We created a silencer score to evaluate epigenetic repression of SNAI2, which can be reversed by treatment with DNA methyltransferase inhibitors and histone deacetylase inhibitors. Silencing of SNAI2 facilitated tumor cell proliferation and luminal differentiation. Furthermore, SNAI2 has a major influence on the tumor microenvironment by reactivating tumor stroma and creating an immunosuppressive microenvironment in prostate cancer. Known as the ‘master of manipulation’, Wolbachia can induce a wide range of phenotypes in its host that can have far-reaching ecological and evolutionary consequences and may be exploited for disease and pest control. However, our knowledge of Wolbachia’s distribution and the infection rate is unevenly distributed across arthropod groups such as scale insects. We fitted a distribution of within-species prevalence of Wolbachia to our data and compared it to distributions fitted to an up-to-date dataset compiled from surveys across all arthropods. The estimated distribution parameters indicate a Wolbachia infection frequency of 43.6% (at a 10% prevalence threshold) in scale insects. Prevalence of Wolbachia in scale insects follows a distribution similar to exponential decline (most species are predicted to have low prevalence infections), in contrast to the U-shaped distribution estimated for other taxa (most species have a very low or very high prevalence). We observed no significant associations between Wolbachia infection and scale insect traits. Finally, we screened for Wolbachia in scale insect’s ecological associates.     This study examined the factors contributing to compassion fatigue (CF) for personal care attendants (PCAs) working in the Australian aged care sector.

    Social media was the main recruitment mode. An anonymous online self-report survey collected demographic information and measures of CF from 169 PCAs, aged between 18 and 66years.

    High levels of CF were reported by 53.3% of respondents. Compassion fatigue was higher in PCAs working in residential aged care than those in community care. Predictors of CF were psychological distress, not having time to care for clients, and poor work psychosocial safety climate. Psychological distress explained 47.9% of the variance in the regression model.

This is a follow-up national survey to one that was published 1 year ago. This study compares the data from Summer 2020 to early Summer 2021, which presents a stark contrast. Our results demonstrate that consumers are now more interested in cosmetic dermatologic procedures compared to 1 year prior. Additionally, they still value the overall safety of the clinic, so physicians should ensure that certain safety measures remain in place despite any decreasing rates of COVID-19 positivity. Our survey sheds more light on current consumer perspectives, which may in turn help physicians adjust their practices to meet current demand. It is important for physicians to be knowledgeable regarding the patterns of consumer decision-making in order to deliver appropriate patient education and provide proper patient outreach during the COVID-19 pandemic.In cow farms, the interaction between animal and environmental microbiomes creates hotspots for antibiotic resistance dissemination. A shotgun metagenomic approach was used to survey the resistome risk in five dairy cow farms. To this purpose, 10 environmental compartments were sampled 3 of them linked to productive cows (fresh slurry, stored slurry, slurry-amended pasture soil); 6 of them to non-productive heifers and dry cows (faeces, fresh manure, aged manure, aged manure-amended orchard soil, vegetables-lettuces and grazed soil); and, finally, unamended control soil. The resistome risk was assessed using MetaCompare, a computational pipeline which scores the resistome risk according to possible links between antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and human pathogens. The resistome risk decreased from slurry and manure microbiomes to soil and vegetable microbiomes. In total (sum of all the compartments), 18,157 ARGs were detected 24% related to ansamycins, 21% to multidrugs, 14% to aminoglycosides, 12% to tetracyclines, 9% to β-lactams, and 9% to macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B. All but two of the MGE-associated ARGs were only found in the animal dejections (not in soil or vegetable samples). Several ARGs with potential as resistome risk markers (based on their presence in hubs of co-occurrence networks and high dissemination potential) were identified. As a precautionary principle, improved management of livestock dejections is necessary to minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance.

    We evaluated the first in-human performance of a novel hybrid imaging catheter that permits simultaneous and co-registered acquisition of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) images.

    A total of 17 patients undergoing planned percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were imaged between August 2018 and August 2019. Eleven patients with both pre- and post-PCI IVUS and OCT images were included in the offline image analysis. IVUS and OCT images were analyzed separately then together with co-registered images for pre-stent findings, and only separately for post-stent findings. A total of 926 frames were analyzed (218 pre-PCI, 708 post-PCI). There was substantial agreement to detect calcific plaque between co-registered IVUS-OCT and standalone IVUS (Kappa 0.72 [0.65-0.79]) and standalone OCT (Kappa 0.75 [0.68-0.81]) while standalone imaging modalities showed lower agreement to detect lipidic and fibrotic plaques compared with co-registered IVUS-OCT.
